The planetary ball mill is a commonly used instrument for laboratory sample pre-grinding treatment. It can grind materials finely, but the grinding effect of planetary ball mill is affected by many factors, including samples, grinding balls, grinding methods, etc. So, can a planetary ball mill grind laboratory samples to nanometer level?
Theoretically, planetary ball milling machines can grind experimental samples to nanometer level, especially hard and brittle samples. However, due to the large variety of samples and the different physical and chemical properties of each sample, not all samples can be ground to nanometer level. To be precise, the conditions required for each sample to be ground to nanometer level are different. For example, small sample quantity, long grinding time, appropriate ball-to-material ratio, wet grinding, etc. can all enable planetary ball mills to grind samples to nanometer level.
For most laboratory ball mills, including planetary ball mills, there are multiple factors that affect the grinding effect if the material is to be finely ground. The grinding conditions suitable for each sample need to be explored and adjusted slowly from all aspects to achieve a better grinding effect.
