Planetary ball mill is an essential device for mixing, fine grinding, sample preparation, nanomaterial dispersion, new product development and small batch production of high-tech materials. The laboratory ball mill can use grinding balls of different specifications, and it must be equipped with grinding balls of different sizes. The proportion of large balls and small balls has a certain impact on the grinding effect of the sample.
Grinding balls of ball mill come in different sizes, and are usually distinguished by diameter. Commonly used grinding ball diameters include 2mm, 3mm, 5mm, 8mm, 10mm, etc. Grinding balls of different sizes have different effects during the ball milling process. Grinding balls with larger diameters also have larger mass. The kinetic energy during the ball milling process is larger and the impact force is stronger. It can effectively crush large particle samples into small ones.
The kinetic energy of grinding balls with small diameters is smaller, but it is not useless, for compared with the large ball of the same mass, the small ball has a larger specific surface area and is more fully in contact with the sample, so the sample can be ground, and the small particle samples are ground even finer. Therefore, when using a laboratory ball mill, grinding balls of different specifications are required to achieve better sample grinding effects.
