Working principle of Laboratory Planetary Ball Mill

Feb 27,2021

Planetary ball mill, also known as planetary ball milling machine, is the new favorite of laboratory grinding instruments in recent years. Compared with traditional conventional grinding equipment, its working efficiency is high and stable, and the grinding effect is good. It can grind many types of samples, which is very convenient. The following is an introduction to the working principle of the planetary ball mill.

The planetary ball mill is named after its working mode which is similar to that of planets in the solar system, imitating the way a planet rotates while revolving around a star. There is a main disk at the bottom of the working area of the planetary ball mill, called the solar disk. There are two or four hollow bases with evenly distributed positions on the solar disk. A grinding tank that can rotate on its own is placed in the base, and it can be equipped with grinding media.

Why does the planetary ball mill grind the material well? Before the instrument works, we put the appropriate grinding media and sample materials into the grinding tank. When the instrument is working, the solar disk rotates, and the upper grinding tank will follow it to make a high-speed revolution around the main shaft. At the same time, the grinding tank will also rotate at high speed in the opposite direction around its internal axis. The grinding medium (usually a grinding ball) is in direct contact with the sample material in the tank, and it performs high-frequency impact, strong squeezing and friction, and fully crushes and grinds the sample under the combined force of the two motion modes, so the discharging particle size reaches the micron level or even the hundred nanometer level.

The above content is a detailed introduction to the working principle of the laboratory planetary ball mill. In the current laboratories, the planetary ball mill is a more popular grinding instrument.
